          • The Amazon changes its name along its route (Lloqueta, Apurímac, Ene, Tambo, Ucayali) and it is only from the confluence between the Ucayali river and the Marañón that it carries the name, Amazonas.
          • 56% of the world’s tropical forests are located in or near the Amazon basin.
          • Francisco de Orellana was the discoverer of the Amazon in 1542, being the first to reach its mouth. He baptized it as ´The Amazon´.
          • Is the largest source of fresh water on Earth and its watershed is the largest of the five continents.
          • More than one thousand tributaries of the Amazon are intertwined in this watershed, coming from nine different countries and occupying an area greater than the million square kilometers.
          • During the rainy season, the Amazon river reaches the 50 km of amplitude.
          • At its mouth, the Amazon is 240 kilometers wide.
          • In the Strait of Obidos, in Brazil, the depth of the Amazon is around 300 meters.
          • 20% of the world’s plant species are found in the Amazon forest.
          • 20% of the world bird species is found in the Amazon forest
